Moate Woman Dressing As A Witch For All Of October
Written 10 hours ago by Angel Croitor
Seáron Thornton, a native from Moate, got into the spirit of Halloween following her late grandfather Mattie’s passing. Inspired by the palliative care and familial support from her grandfather’s nurses she decided she wanted to help them out in one way or another.
“My grandad passed away earlier this year – I just thought that the care they gave him was amazing.”
Seáron’s dear grandad passed away from cancer and she remembers the dignity which they brought to his care in the last few years of his life. Her idea was to juxtapose that dignity by dressing up as something that “iconic” and particularly awkward – inspiring the indignity her grandfather didn’t experience from his carers.
At the beginning she told herself she wasn’t going to be full on witch for the entire month but after her first or second social media post she saw the support that was there for her cause.
“Its difficult to cut through all the different fundraising activities – I’ve upped the ante for full witch.”
Seáron is a marketing manager for Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen and she says that meeting clients was really awkward the first few times. She often didn’t get the opportunity to explain what she was doing so it was up to the client’s imagination as to why she dressed as a witch in the month of October.
There have been a few naysayers but Seáron assures us that once she explains the reason behind her dress up they usually tell her it’s a brilliant idea and some have gone on to sponsor her!
Initially, Seáron targeted for a reasonable £300 but has reached £2,020 to date. The money will be going to the Irish Cancer Society. That’s a staggering 637% of her goal – the proof is in the pudding!
