Hurricane Ophelia Headed For Ireland Next Week

Written 1 week ago by Angel Croitor

Storm Ophelia will make landfall in Ireland on Monday and Cathal Nolan, from the Midlands Weather Channel, informs us just how bad it may get.

“Certainly is one of the more rare weather events we’re likely to see across the Midlands – it’s a very unusual situation. It will have lost the worst of it’s punch but I would expect winds on Monday, particularly for Atlantic areas, to reach possibly as high as 140 – 160 km/h in some really exposed areas.”

So after you’ve done your tanning on the Saturday you better bring out the wellies and the raincoats again if you have to leave the house on Monday. Here at the Midlands we are expecting to get up to 130 km/h winds and Cathal says there is likely some disruption.

The worst storm we’ve had before this will be in 2014 but Cathal doesn’t expect this hurricane to be on the same level of severity as Debbie or Charlie but nontheless it is likely to cause some damage if precautions aren’t taken.

So baton down the hatches and grab the warmest duvet you have and take to the couch – it’s going to be a wild one!
