Storm Brian Headed For The Midlands This Friday

Written 5 days ago by Angel Croitor

Storm Ophelia sent the country into red alert and we all felt the shakes now and then as reports came in of her path of destruction. Now there’s another big bad storm headed for the midlands but we’re told it’s not as big – or as bad!

Cathal Nolan, from the Midlands Weather Channel, tells us all about the oncoming storm.

“Fortunately is not expected to be as severe as Storm Ophelia.”

Not that’s not to say it’s going to be an ordinarily windy day in October. Wind speeds are expected to reach a maximum of 120-130 km/h across certain areas. Cathal tell us it’s not predicted to be as severe in terms of damage. It’s likely that the southern half of the country will be getting the worst of the weather.

Currently there are two models tracking Brian’s path and possible outcome. The US government based agency, OPC, predicts that Brian’s track will be a little bit further north than predicted by the european model, GFS which saw us safely inside the eye of the storm.

We’ll have to wait and see but caution should be taken regardless – Brian may be a little less severe than Ophelia but that doesn’t change the potential danger it poses to us here in the Midlands.

Cathal tells us that the arrival of the storm should occur around the late hours on Friday and the worst of the winds should hit us between 4 am and 10am on Saturday. These predictions are subject to change.

Brian is set to clear Ireland by Saturday evening after the worst of the winds and rain abates fully. Rainfall is expected to be 30 – 40mm between today and the arrival of Brian.

As always you can keep up to date with all of the Midlands Weather events from Cathal’s channel on Midlands Weather Channel on Facebook.
