Children As Young As Ten Abusing Prescription Drugs – Midlands Nurse

Written 3 years ago by Newsroom

A local addiction nurse says children as young as 10 years old are buying the prescription drug Benzodiazepine on the streets.

Marian Mulvaney’s comments come as figures reveal drugs-related deaths rose by 62 percent in the ten years from 2004 to 2014.

The Health Research Board research also shows that prescription drugs were a factor in three out of every four drugs deaths that year.

Ms Mulvaney, who is the community GP pharmacy liaison addiction nurse for the midlands region, says the drug is widely available.
