Crime Crackdown In Laois & Offaly To Include Armed Checkpoints

A new Garda task force to battle crime in Laois and Offaly will include the rollout of armed checkpoints.
The Justice Minister, Laois TD Charlie Flanagan, is confident that the strategy, which involves local Gardai and the Emergency Response Unit, will be “highly effective”.
It will see a Sergeant and eight other members of the force dedicate their time to stamping out the activity of criminal gangs in the two counties.
Minister Flanagan believes the perception that rural areas are a soft touch for thieves and burglars is wrong, and says the armed checkpoints send a message that Laois and Offaly is no safe harbour for crime gangs.
