Election Voter Turnout Peaking At 25% So Far In The Midlands

Voter turnout in the Midlands for the General Election is reported to be steady this afternoon.

Polling stations opened at 7am this morning, and will close at 10pm tonight.

In the Laois constituency turnout is at 17% in Portlaoise, 16% in Monasterevin and 15% in Mountmellick.

Meanwhile, turnout in the Offaly constituency is averaging between 20-25%.

A 25% turnout has been recorded in Ferbane, followed by 24% in Kinnitty and 23% in Belmont and Clara.

In Longford-Westmeath, latest turnout figures are at 20% in the Mullingar and Athlone districts.

3.2m people are entitled to vote and everyone is being reminded to bring photographic ID with them to their local polling station.
