Fianna Fail’s Sean Fleming says the ‘Help to Buy’ scheme introduced in the budget is designed to increase house prices.
The Laois deputy is critical of the plan, which includes a tax rebate of up to €20,000 for people buying a new home.
There’s been criticism of the scheme from opposition parties, and some economists, who believe the incentive will drive up prices, rather than ease pressure on people buying a home.
Deputy Fleming says his party are supporting the budget in spite of this scheme.
