Written 8 months ago by Newsroom
Work begins today on a flood alleviation scheme in Athlone.
OPW Minister Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran will visit Iona Park later this morning where reinforced concrete walls and earth embankments will be built and a stretch of local road will be raised.
The project is expected to be completed in the first three months of next year.
It forms part of a €6m scheme in Athlone which aims to take 250 homes near the Shannon out of flood risk.
