Written 4 months ago by Ben Finnegan
Over 2,300 homes in Westmeath are without power as Storm Hector rages on.
It includes over 600 homes in Moate, 750 in Athlone while ESB say almost 900 customers in Mullingar have no electricity.
Crews are working to repair the faults, and expected to have them fixed by 9am.
A status yellow wind warning from Met Eireann remains in place for 12 counties including Offaly and Westmeath until 10 o’clock.
Forecaster Gerry Murphy says the winds will ease:
A number of trees are down, including on the Old Longford Road in Mullingar at the railway crossing, and in Offaly a tree is partially blocking an entrance to a housing estate in Clara.
AA Roadwatch say the Castlepollard to Delvin Road, the R395 is closed near Collinstown due to a fallen tree, while the Tullamore to Portarlington Road, the R420 is partially blocked
Gardaí are advising motorists to take care and be mindful of windblown debris – particularly on secondary routes.
