IFA Warns Against South American Beef Imports

Written 1 month ago by Newsroom

The Irish Farmers’ Association says it is alarmed at reports of a deal to allow a major increase in the amount of South American beef imported into the EU.

The IFA says the move could mean lower standard beef for the consumer and represents a major economic blow for farmers here.

The  deal is part of a trade agreement being negotiated between the EU and the Mercosur group of South American countries.

IFA President Joe Healy says Europe doesn’t need more imports from countries like Brazil.
