Jobs Lost As Insurance Costs Force Laois Mart To Close

Written 4 months ago by Hannah Murphy

Around 20 people in Laois have lost their jobs after rising insurance costs forced a local mart to shut down.

Staff were told at around 11 o’clock yesterday that Mountrath Mart will be shutting.

The company had no debts but says their premiums had risen four times in the last four years, with €2,000 spent on overheads every week before any trading could commence.
