Mairead McGuinness is being tipped to get the nod to contest the European Parliament’s presidential elections.
The Midlands North West MEP, who is currently a vice-president of the parliament, is one of four people seeking the nomination from the European People’s Party.
Members will make their decision on a candidate this evening.
Her fellow Fine Gael MEP Sean Kelly reckons she has a very strong chance.
