Gardaí have released two men without charge and a file is to be sent to the DPP after a firearm was recovered during an operation in Co. Laois.

The gun was recovered shortly before 6pm on Thursday when a car was stopped and searched on the M7 near Mountrath.

A number of suspicious devices were also discovered and the army bomb squad was called in.

A man in his 40s and a second in his late teens were arrested at the scene, but have now been released.
