Midlands Senator Wants Tougher Laws To Tackle Racism

A midlands senator has called for tougher laws on racism in Ireland.

Gabrielle McFadden is appealing for a review of Irish legislation on hate crime, incitement and online hate speech.

She’s criticised politicians who are failing their constituents by voicing radical messages of division.

In response, Junior Minister for Equality, David Stanton said a review is to be carried out on the effectiveness of the legislation in other countries, and a public consultation will be held on the current Irish laws.
