Multi-Million Euro Factory Opens In Portlaoise

12 million euro is being invested in to the world’s first dedicated plastic waste to wax factory in Co. Laois.
The facility – which is being opened in Portlaoise today – will see plastic that would usually end up in landfill turned into an eco-friendly wax.
The wax is then used to make products such as lipstick, candles, crayons and even chewing gum.
Chief Executive of Trifol Darragh Gilmore says innovative facilities like this are what’s needed to tackle climate change.
The Plant will initially employ sixteen people with a view to expanding to sixty staff in the future.
Laois TD and Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan was on hand to open the centre.
He says it’s a great opportunity for the people of Laois:
350 million tonnes of plastic waste is produced worldwide every year, with just 9 per cent being recycled.
For every tonne of the eco-friendly wax produced, 1.5 to 2.0 tonnes of plastic waste is removed from the environment.
