The Communications Minister has launched new mobile phone technology which aims to reduce delays and potentially save lives in emergencies.

The android-based system allows emergency services pinpoint your exact location when you call 999 or 112.

It can also help locate victims of assault or those with intellectual disabilities who are unable to speak.

Roscommon-Galway Independent TD Denis Naughten says it will be of particular benefit in rural areas:
