Parents Unable To Afford To Vaccinate Children For Meningitis
Written 3 months ago by Mary Kate Findon
There are claims that parents are being forced to choose which children to vaccinate for meningitis due to the cost of the injections.
It follows three deaths as a result of the disease in three weeks, according to The Times Ireland.
The government is being urged to foot the bill for the jabs which can cost up to 300 euro and aren’t covered by the medical card.
Vaccinations for the A and B strains are required, but many children are only immunised for one.
Longford GP and Chairman of the IMO Committee Dr. Padraig McGarry says considering herd immunity is needed, just focusing on children may not protect us.
