A pensioner is in a serious condition after being struck by a lorry in Co. Westmeath.

The 80 year old man was walking on the N52 Tyrrellspass to Mullingar Rd near Dalystown at around 6:30pm yesterday when the collision occurred.

He is being treated at Tullamore Hospital.

The road is closed for a forensic collision examination.

Northbound traffic is being diverted via Rochfortbridge and southbound traffic is being diverted via Meedin on the old N52.

Gardaí are investigating the collision.
