Secondary School Teachers Strike In Pay Row

Written 3 years ago by Newsroom

Thousands of secondary school students are at home today as teachers take strike action.

ASTI members are picketing school gates in the Midlands over unequal pay for those newer to the profession.

It is the first of seven days of strike action while it remains unclear if schools will reopen after the mid-term break due to the withdrawal of supervision and substitution.

Deirdre Lee, an Irish teacher at Sacred Heart in Tullamore, says it is time for pay to be restored.
