Students Choose Courses With Strong Long-Term Prospects

Early indications from this years CAO offers show students have opted for courses with strong long-term prospects.
Science, technology, and engineering are proving popular with points in all three areas up across the board.
Just over 50,000 students across the country are currently deciding whether to accept their CAO offer which were released at 2 o’clock this afternoon.
This year, courses which require more than 500 points for entry are at a record high.
The uncertainty of Brexit has driven applications down in agriculture, while points in arts, nursing and law remain mostly unchanged from last year.
Athlone Institute of Technology has seen a small rise in almost half of its courses for 2019.
The biggest jump coming in their Applied Psychology degree, which is over 400 points for the first time.
Only 7 courses decreased in points with the largest drop coming in the Accounting and Law course – which has seen a 72 point fall.
We also have the first degree to require more than 600 points, that’s economics and finance in UCD.
