A Sinn Féin Meath West TD says substandard rental accommodation can be found right next door to the Junior Housing Minister.

Peadar Tóibín made the comments during a Dáil debate on a motion by his party which calls on the Government to take action to improve standards and enforce tougher penalties on rogue landlords.

The proposals are not being opposed by the coalition.

Deputy Tóibín says the crisis can be seen right on the doorstep of his constituency colleague Damien English.
