TD Says Proposed Wood Pellet Plant Should Be Located In Ireland

A Tipperary TD is questioning why Bord na Móna is building a wood pellet plant in the US and not in Ireland.

The company is planning to invest €60m in a plant in Georgia as it looks to increase the use of biomass.

It will stop harvesting peat for energy production by 2030.

Fianna Fáil’s Jackie Cahill says it makes no sense to invest the money abroad.

Energy Minister Denis Naughten says it is necessary to source biomass from abroad in the short to medium term.
