A local fire officer says that hoax calls are tying up resources during the busy Halloween period.

Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer in Westmeath, Pat Hunt says they’ve received a number of such callouts in recent days, after a reduction in such behaviour in the past few years.

Parents are being reminded to supervise children and ensure their costumes are flame resistant.

Mr Hunt says particular care is needed at bonfires.
