Northern Ireland Face Uphill Task In Play Offs

Written 1 week ago by Will O'Callaghan

Northern Ireland are facing an uphill battle to reach next summer’s World Cup finals.

Michael O’Neill’s men suffered a controversial 1-0 defeat to Switzerland in their first leg at Windsor Park last night.

The goal came from a debatable penalty after Corry Evans was harshly judged to have blocked a shot with his arm.

Meanwhile Croatia had a comfortable win in the other play-off first leg; they beat Greece 4-1 in Zagreb.

Tonight, Sweden are at home to Italy in another World Cup play-off.

Kick off in Stockholm is at 7:45pm.
