Annie Power Spearheads Mullins’ Aintree Assault On Thursday

Written 2 years ago by Will O'Callaghan

Willie Mullins is going gung-ho in trying to win the British trainer’s title for the first time and Annie Power will lead his stars into battle at Aintree in the Grade 1 Doom Bar Aintree Hurdle tomorrow.

Annie Power became the first mare in 22 years to win the Champion Hurdle at last month’s Cheltenham Festival and she will renew rivalry with the second, third and fourth from Cheltenham in Nicky Henderson’s My Tent Or Yours, Annie Power’s stable companion Nichols Canyon and the Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained The New One, winner of the race in 2014.

Also tomorrow, Mullins will take on Cue Card with both Djakadam and Don Poli in the Grade 1 Betfred Bowl Chase. The pair finished second and third respectively in the Timico Cheltenham Gold Cup behind Don Cossack last month.

Cue Card heads the market as he bids to make amends for his untimely fall in the Gold Cup.
