Athlone Town Fight Back To Draw With Waterford, Wins For Tullamore Town, Portlaoise AFC And Mullingar Atheltic

Athlone Town came back from 3-0 down to rescue a 3-3 draw against Waterford in the Airtricity League First Division last night.

Roddy Collins’ Waterford side built up the three-goal advantage after 36-minutes against his former club with two goals from Anthony McAlavey and one from Darren Murphy.

David Cassidy got his second goal in as many games in the 41st minute before the visitors were reduced to 10-men when striker Eoin Rhodes was sent-off.

Town drew level with two goals in four minutes, Conor Barry brought the game back to 2-3 in the 75th minute before Daniel Purdy’s equaliser.

Athlone will host Shelbourne in their re-fixed match at 7.45pm on Monday.

Tullamore Town are into the third-round of the Gilligan Cup after a 5-0 win over Greenhills/Greenpark with all the goals coming in the last half hour at Leah Victoria Park.

Shane Dolan scored twice and Kevin Williamson, Brian Gill and Ken Doyle were also on target in the victory for the Leinster Senior League Senior Division One B leaders.

In the League, a Jason Murphy hat-trick and a Gary O’Sullivan goal gives Portlaoise AFC a 4-0 win over Drogheda Town at Rossleighan Park.

Mullingar Athletic are sitting of the Sunday Major Division after a 3-1 home win against title rivals Inchicore.

The victory leaves Athletic one-point ahead of both Inchicore and Hartstown/Huntstown with Inchicore having played one game more than the other two.
