Consistency Was Key – Galway Captain David Burke

Galway hurling captain David Burke says a consistent level of performance for 70 minutes was key to them winning their 10th Allianz Hurling League title.

They stormed to a 16 point win over Tipperary at the Gaelic Grounds, becoming the third team in-a-row to win the league from Division 1B.

It was a result that many believe makes them strong contenders to win their first All-Ireland title since 1988.

Burke says they learned a lot about themselves as the competition progressed.

“I’m delighted. Really happy for the support today – the fans and the kids. Just delighted, thrilled for the management and the players as well especially. They put in the work over the last four months. It is what it is; a league title and we are thrilled to win it.”

“We knew if we got to the knock-out stages that we could put it up to any of the 1A teams so we built into it nicely.

“Same again today, we brought that approach. We wanted to start well because we hadn’t been starting games well especially after half-time as well. We kind of focused on them areas. If we started well, we’d get into a nice flow and obviously not let Tipp get into theirs.”
