Rory McIlroy In Final Group On Day One Of The Masters
Written 2 years ago by Will O'Callaghan
Rory McIlroy will be the last player to tee-off for the opening round of the 2016 Masters tomorrow.
The world number three has been drawn alongside Bill Haas and Martin Kaymer for the first two rounds of this year’s championship at Augusta National, with the trio not teeing-off until just after 7pm, Irish time.
In the group immediately preceding them will be Clara’s Shane Lowry, who will be joined by Angel Cabrera and JB Holmes.
McIlroy can complete a career grand slam if he wins the title.
The Ulster man says he’s learned a lot from last year’s tournament.
Shane Lowry says he’s comfortable going into his second Masters.
Darren Clarke will be the first of the Irish quartet in action this week when he’s joined on the first tee by Billy Horschel and Matthew Fitzpatrick. Graeme McDowell has been grouped with Fabian Gomez of Argentina and American Scott Piercy.
World number one Jason Day is in a high-profile grouping with Matt Kuchar and Ernie Els while Jordan Spieth will be among the early starters when he was drawn in Group 9 alongside Paul Casey and Amateur star Bryson Dechambeau.
Day says he’s in good shape – but he’s got lots of competition.
Two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson is in the same group as Branden Grace and Ian Poulter, while 2013 winner Adam Scott is joined by Kevin Kisner and Brooks Koepka.
The par three tournament takes place this afternoon.
