Offaly Give Meath An Almighty Fright In Leinster SFC

Written 2 months ago by Midlands Sport

Offaly footballers almost caused the shock of the championship in Navan yesterday when they ran a fancied Meath team to just two points after a titanic struggle.

The Faithful County were four points up at one stage with Niall McNamee outstanding up front but a soft goal conceeded to Bryan McMahon in the 63rd minute was the key score.

Offaly team manager John Maughan said after the match that his side deserved to win it:

Offaly will now prepare for the football qualifiers in four weeks time.

Tyrone had 6 points to spare against Derry in Omagh, prevailing by 1-19 to 1-13 in their Ulster preliminary round tie.

Roscommon are into the semi finals of the Connacht senior championship following their 3-17 to 12 points dismissal of Leitrim at Doctor Hyde Park.

In Leinster, Louth went to Wexford and prevailed by 22 points to 1-14.
