Provincial Titles For Cork And Roscommon

Written 4 months ago by Will O'Callaghan

For the 53rd time Cork are Munster senior hurling champions.

They proved why they were favourites in yesterday’s Munster final with a 1-25 to 1-20 win over Clare in front of over 45,000 fans at Semple Stadium.

Alan Cadogan hit their only goal of the game after 13 minutes, while he also put in an excellent display alongside youngster Mark Coleman.

Clare’s goal came from Conor McGrath with 15 minutes to play, but they failed to take the lead at any stage of the tie.

It caps off a well-earned provincial title for Kieran Kingston’s side, as they also saw off Tipperary and Waterford earlier in the Championship.

Roscommon are Connacht football champions after an unexpected victory over Galway at Pearse Stadium.

Kevin McStay’s side were rank outsiders in the build-up to the game, but they held an impressive command on the tie from start to finish.

Cian Connolly and Brian Stack both found the back of the net either side of half-time as they won out by 2-15 to 12 points.
