Racing At Cork And Downpatrick This Evening

Cork plays host to a seven-race card this evening.

The Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fund Fillies Maiden at 5.35pm kicks off the card at the Mallow venue and is the first of three sprint races down for decision.

The Pat Shanahan-trained Charlies Missile takes his chance in the Mallow Town Summer BBQ Evening July 8th Handicap at 6.35pm and the recent Navan winner will not be easy to peg back.

Garvan Donnelly’s Lily’s Prince is back to try and defend her crown in the Cork Racecourse Handicap at 7.05pm over six furlongs but, with a full compliment of runners heading to post, she faces stern opposition.

The going at Cork is good to firm on the round track and good on the sprint track.

There also jumping action at Downpatrick with the Welcome To America Rated Novice Hurdle at 5.55pm kicking off the seven-race card.

Six runners go to post and Noel Meade saddles course winner Rise Of An Empire for Westmeath owners Gigginstown House Stud.

Ballyfinboy bids to defy top weight in the Congratulating Kate And Michael Handicap Chase at 7.25pm.

While the course and distance winner Shake It Up has a good opportunity to strike again in the East Down Point-To-Point Committee Hunters Chase at 8.25pm.

Gordon Elliott supplies the likely favourite in the shape of The Storyteller in the final race of the evening the American Dream Flat Race at 8.55pm.

The going at the track is good this morning.
