Republic of Ireland Captain Robbie Keane looks set to be sidelined for 4-6 weeks after he had surgery on his knee- but he should be fit in time for Euro 2016.

La Galaxy striker Keane revelaed the news with an instagram post last night which showed his leg heavily bandaged after the operation.

Keane failed to make an appearance in Ireland’s two recent internationals against Switzerland and Slovakia due but he should be available for Ireland’s opener against Sweden on June 13th if required.

The news comes a day after Jonathan Walters confirmed he too had a knee operation and hopes to be back in action in less than three weeks.

Operation done speedy recovery hopefully back soon stronger #lagalaxy #irlelang🍀🍀
