Ireland have picked up their first win at the Cerebral Palsy Football Pre-Paralympic tournament in Spain.
Dillon Sheridan scored a hat-trick as the boys in green defeated the USA 5-0, to bounce back from losses to Brazil and Great Britain in the group.
Westmeath’s Simon L’Estrange kept a clean sheet in goal while Darragh Snell and Tom Badun also found the net.
JJ Glynn, Head Coach, was pleased by their performance:
“Today’s result merited the performance. In all three games, we’ve put in a strong performance, but up until today, we didn’t see the fruits of that labour.
“This evening, we were rewarded with five really good goals and a clean sheet – it was a great result,” he continued. “We came here with the aim of playing with a level of consistency and we hope to try and maintain that now. While we are happy with the win, our focus is now on our game against Argentina on Thursday.”
IRELAND (starting seven v the USA): Simon L’Estrange, Joe Markey, Luke Evans, Gary Messett, Dillon Sheridan, Darragh Snell, Aaron Tier. Subs used: Tom Badun for Sheridan, Peter Cotter for Snell, Carl McKee for Evans.
