Westmeath’s Shortall takes the Highway to success at Clonmel

Moate jockey Shane Shortall was back among the winners today with an enterprising ride to win the €19.16 Euro Family Admission Ticket Handicap Hurdle on Ancient Highway.

Shortall has been in plenty of demand over the past few weeks and already this month has been placed on runners at Cheltenham, Kempton and Carlisle.

Back closer to home he showed plenty of confidence this afternoon, always keeping the Pat Fahy-trained seven-year-old close to the pace and taking a firm initiative three hurdles from home, kicking clear to establish a lead he would never relinquish. A big jump at the last sealed a near-two-length victory for the 8-1 chance. Sound Of Thunder (22-1) ran on to finish second, with Presentingoscar (16-1) edging out Tristram Shandy (11-1) for third.
