Three In-A-Row For Dublin
Written 2 months ago by Will O'Callaghan
Dublin are All-Ireland Senior Football champions for the fifth time in seven-years.
They edged out Mayo by 1-17 to 1-16 at Croke Park for their third successive title and 27th overall.
Con O’Callaghan netted for the holders inside two-minutes but Mayo led by 9-points to 1-5 at half-time.
In the 47th-minute the teams were reduced to 14 men each after John Small and Donal Vaughan were sent off.
Lee Keegan found the net six-minutes later to put Mayo ahead and the game remained in the balance until the fourth minute of stoppage time when Dean Rock sent over a free to win it.
Dublin will celebrate their success in Smithfield Square in the city centre from half-six this evening, while Mayo’s wait to lift Sam Maguire now stretches to 66-years.
Yesterday’s defeat was their fourth final loss in six seasons.
