Offaly Woman Beats 33,000 In Women’s Mini Marathon

33,000 competitors took part in the VHI Women’s Mini Marathon this year. One woman came out on top – a native of Mucklagh, Co. Offaly, Ann Marie McGlynn.
She’s no stranger to competitive running as she captained and led the Irish Senior Women’s Team to bronze medal in the European Cross Country Championships in 2014.
With the immense training regime she required to win this year’s marathon she aimed to run 70-77 miles per week and she says that in the last 9 months she’s really come into her own and is running the fastest she has ever been able to run.
‘I can’t even remember breaking the tape – I was just thinking get to that finish line’.
How does a marathon winner celebrate her big victory? An extravagant meal? A celebratory drink with friends and family? Not for Ann Marie who made the 3 hour drive home after lunch with friends and prepared the children for school the next day.
Will Faulkner spoke to the tremendous Ann Marie McGlynn on Midlands Today.
