Raharney Child Expelled For Autism
Written 5 months ago by Angel Croitor
Ann Mulvanny, a native of Raharney and mother of Tyler who was expelled from school recently because of his autism, was interviewed by Gail Conway for Midlands Today.
Ann says that Tyler was diagnosed with autism in February 2016. They wrote up all of their reports to enroll him and had informed the school of Tyler’s autism which makes the Coralstown school’s decision a bit of a shock to the family.
On the 14th of February Tyler was suspended for two days and again in March that led to his expulsion in May. In the meantime Tyler has been at home which is to his detriment as Ann explains that Tyler understands he was meant to be in a routine but with all of that out of the window he doesn’t understand why he isn’t allowed to attend school anymore. He has gone so far as to ask if it’s because the teachers don’t like him.
‘Nobody can help him thats what the education welfare officer said that he can’t do anything for him’.
Listen to the full story below as Ann Mulvanny expresses that something needs to change with our board of education’s approach to autism in our national schools.
