Mountlucas Man Quoted €7000 On Car Insurance

Written 5 months ago by Angel Croitor

Trevor Palmer is a provisional licence driver and has called a couple of insurance companies to get a quote for a 2004 1.3 Ford Fiesta and he has been quoted between €5,000 to €7,000.

€1000 is as much value as Trevor would put on the car himself. He has never had a crash in his life, no speeding record, no penalty points whatsoever and yet the insurance companies quote him something 7 times the amount he’d consider paying for the car to begin with.

He has 9 lessons done and one company said when he has the 12 completed they could offer him a quote of €4,500.

Trevor mentions that he knows of drivers in their 20’s who have gotten quotes of €2,000 – €3,000. He feels as if the combination of his age, 36, and his current state of learning to drive for the first time is causing the crazy difference between an average insurance quote and the one he’s received.

Will Faulkner tried to understand why Trevor was charged so much for insurance on Midlands Today. Do you have any stories of crazy insurance quotes or car charges that you feel is unjust? Feel free to contact us at midlandstoday@midlandsradio.fm
