Olympic Boxing Club Mullingar May Lose Their Home

Written 5 months ago by Angel Croitor

For the past 18 months Olympic Boxing Club Mullingar has been in the Columb Army Barracks and they believe the venue is the perfect place for them. They have a lot of space, large enough to fit a full size ring and cater for classes of 30 to 35 students, and ample parking at their leisure. Soon enough – they may lose it all.

Derek Sheridan, Secretary and Coach, spoke to Will Faulkner on Midlands Today about the club’s history dating all the way back to 2010 and the current state of affairs at the Barracks. Surely, they’re doing something right if their trophy cabinet boasts Best Club in the Longford-Westmeath championships for the last three years running.

‘It hasn’t cost us members as yet but it will eventually cost us maybe the chance of holding future events’.

As their numbers have increased, from the four students at the beginning, they sought bigger and better venues to suit their club and ended up in the spacious venue that once housed the Irish Army. Recently they’ve been made aware that the Barracks will be sold and they may lose the use of the club indefinitely.
