John Bolton heads off to the USA today to begin a cycle that would put the best of us to shame.

4,500km across the length of the United States from the uppermost border of America and Canada all the way down to the northern tip of Mexico.  He has prepared relentlessly for this olympian feat as we’ve documented in the past but today we discover what his family think of it all.

‘We’re not into beach holidays, we just get bored and probably start to fight’.

His wife, Margaret, plans to keep herself busy in the meantime with her own sports such as kayaking and horse riding.

Bill Bolton, John’s father, on the other hand fears for John’s safety regarding the dangers out in the wilderness of America – in particular the bears and mountain lions that pose a genuine threat to his life.
