Concerned Citizen Disagrees With Posting Pictures of Shoplifters
Written 5 months ago by Angel Croitor
Catherine In The Midlands, a concerned citizen, had an issue with one shop, which she didn’t want to name, and their decision to hang a picture of an alleged shoplifter on their wall. She approached the shop assistant and inquired about the picture and was told that the person is ‘stealing from the shop’.
As a mother Catherine was shocked and horrified that a shop owner has decided that putting a picture up, of what she believes to be a minor, is the appropriate course of action against the alleged thief and calls it an issue of ‘conscience’. She says that she just knows the person is a minor and definitely not over 18. Catherine also stated that if she finds out who the person in the photograph is she will make it her business to inform the parents.
‘Nobody in my mind, and I’m just an ordinary person here, to my mind nobody has the right to put a picture of a person on a wall’.
A few of the issues highlighted by Catherine on Midlands Today are:
- Child Protection Law if the person is under 18
- Defamation
- Data Protection
