Women For Elections Welcome Support For Female Candidates in Laois And Offaly

Women For Election say 29% of voters in Offaly and 15% in Laois cast their first preference votes for women in the General Election.

The Group are welcoming the fact that the percentage of women elected to the 32nd Dáil is set to hit a record high, up by 5 per cent from the last election in 2011.

As it stands, thirty-three female candidates have won a seat in Leinster House, including two from Offaly- Fine Gael’s Marcella Corcoran Kennedy and Sinn Fein’s Carol Nolan.
