Gardaí in Athlone say a male member of the force was treated for minor injuries at the weekend following an assault.

A woman in her 20’s was arrested on Church Street in the town having carried out the attack in the early hours of Sunday morning.

She was taken to Athlone Garda Station for questioning and later released without charge.

Gardaí say a file is being drawn up locally in the case and investigations are ongoing.
