A Sinn Fein TD says that Laois County Council have dug themselves into a legal hole.
The local authority has come under pressure from the Government for its blanket ban on all wind projects.
Yesterday, Councillors voted to increase the local property tax by 10%, with almost a quarter of the additional money raised being put aside to cover potential judicial proceedings from energy companies.
Deputy Brian Stanley says the people of Laois now have to foot the bill for their mistake.
