Sinn Fein’s Stanley Disputes €7bn Cost Of Abolishing Irish Water

Sinn Fein’s environment spokesperson Brian Stanley is disputing the estimated €7bn euro cost associated with the abolition of Irish Water.

The newly elected Laois deputy says the State would instead lose €53m in revenue from its closure, before taking into account the costs of any contract terminations.

An internal Irish Water document, seen by the Irish Times, claims the abolition of the utility would cost the State up to €7bn over the next five years.

Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin support its abolition, but deputy Stanley is doubtful that the two parties could be a compatible option for a coalition government.

He insists the Sinn Fein TDs were elected on a ‘Right to Change’ mandate.
