Athlone Man Finishes Grueling 10-hour Ironman In Barcelona

Sean Norton was in the top-30 Irish competitors in the event.

Ironman Barcelona 2021 is in the books and featured Athlone man Sean Norton.

Norton completed the remarkable test of endurance in 10 hours and 45 minutes to finish 695th overall and 28th among the 138 strong Irish contingent.

An Ironman consists of a 3.8km swim, 180.2km bike and 42.2km run, however on this occasion inclement weather reduced the swim to 950m.

It was the third time the Coosan man has tested his endurance skills but it had been four years since his previous effort in the Netherlands.

Anthony O'Brien was the leading Irishman, coming home in 8 hours 24 minutes for a 36th place finish.

Sweden's Kristian Ek took the race in a time of 7 hours 46 minutes-and 44 seconds.
