Dr. Martin Feeley also says the mood of the country is depressed at the moment.
He resigned earlier this month after suggesting that Ireland should be pursuing a herd immunity strategy in a newspaper interview.
Speaking on PrimeTime last night, Dr.Feeley clashed with professor Sam McConkey about the need for more strict measures in the coming months.
