Job Title:                   Sales Assistant

Reports to:                Store Manager, Store Owner

Main Purpose of the Job:     

Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction is the number one priority.  You will interact with each customer with great pride, passion and care and inspire shoppers through your knowledge and expertise.  You will demonstrate a passion for quality food, manage queues, ensuring each customer receives an exceptional customer experience.  At the tills they are responsible for greeting every customer as if it was their first time in the store, while also actively managing queues.  You will always follow up on customer queries and complaints; keep up to date with the range in store and making personal recommendations to customers where appropriate.

Relevant Skills/Experience:

  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Ability to engage with and prioritise customer needs;
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, organised and flexible;
  • Ability to use own initiative and work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment;
  • Previous customer service experience is an advantage.

Main Duties:

  1. Always ensure that customer satisfaction is the number one priority by greeting each customer as if it’s their first visit to the store and consistently deliver an exceptional service by displaying I-CARE service excellence behaviours;
  2. Actively promote the Real rewards Loyalty Programme to every customer by:
  • scanning the RR card for every transaction,
  • offering a RR card to customers who do not have one,
  • understanding and explaining features, benefits & advantages to customers & colleagues,
  • ensuring you are up to date on active vouchers, the APP and any changes to the loyalty programme;
  1. At checkout ensure all transactions are dealt with in a speedy and efficient manner;
  2. Actively manage queues;
  3. When on the tills, ensure all till procedures are followed correctly;
  4. Report any scanning issues at the checkouts to the Store Manager;
  5. Keep up-to-date with the offers, promotion and product ranges in Store;
  6. Offer advice, information and make personal recommendations to customers where relevant;
  7. When on the checkout, offer a receipt at the end of each transaction;
  8. Show a positive attitude and take responsibility for ensuring customers receive an excellent shopping experience; 
  9. Deal with all customer queries and complaints politely, professionally and consistent with store policy;
  10. Work towards achieving Service Excellence in the mystery shop reports;
  11. Carry out stock rotation when merchandising and packing shelves, ensuring that all areas of the store in which you are operating are presented to the highest standard;
  12. Ensure you understand and comply with all company hygiene, HACCP (if relevant) and food safety procedures;
  13. Always wear full uniform, name badge and present a neat and tidy appearance at all times;
  14. Adhere to all Store rules, policies and procedures at all time;
  15. Be familiar and comply with all Health & Safety regulations particularly those pertaining to your role and to report any breaches to store management;
  16. Follow procedures in relation to dealing with and reporting spillages, accidents and the prevention of slips, trips and falls;

  18. Perform any other duties or assume any other responsibilities that may be assigned to you from time to time. These may be outside of your normal area of work. Furthermore, you may be assigned to work in other areas within the Store on either a temporary or permanent basis.
