Midlands secondary school students are being treated like "guinea pigs".

That's the message from the Irish Second-Level Students' Union in reaction to a proposal to move the Leaving Cert Exam Paper 1 in English and Irish to the end of fifth year.

If enacted, the new system will be in place for those entering fifth year this September.

Regional Officer for Longford/Westmeath ISSU, Gearoid McCarthy, says there's little evidence to suggest the education system will be able to deliver this new policy:
