On the programme this week MJ discusses the continuing decline of beef prices with Darren Carty from the Irish Farmers Journal. With inflation hitting households right across Europe consumer demand for beef is low and this sees prices under €5 per kg for the first time this year. The FTMTA are holding their bi annual machinery show in Punchestown on July 5th and 6th. Karol Duignan the President of the FTMTA speaks about the show which will see tractors and machinery from all over Europe arrive in Ireland at this huge event. Organic dairy farmer and Laois IFA Chairman John Fitzpatrick speaks about his enterprise in advance of an event on his farm. John feels the current rule in organic dairy farming which limits purchasing replacements to 10% from conventional herds is having a negative effect on increasing the genetic merit of organic dairy cows. Joe Patton from Teagasc speaks about the annual Teagasc dairy event in Moorepark which focuses on balancing profitability with sustainability. Joe also speaks about the outlook for milk price for the rest of the year.
